Introduction: Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) is an infectious gram-negative bacterium that colonizes the gastric mucosa of about 4.4 billion people worldwide. It has been recognized as a key mediator of peptic ulcer, duodenal, and gastric cancers. The pathogenicity of H pylori is facilitated by its adherence to A B H and sialylated Lewis antigens present in the gastric mucosa via its BabA and SabA adhesins on its membrane. Thus, secretor status, A B O and Lewis blood group systems appear to play key roles in host microorganism interactions in H pylori infections. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and association of A B O, Lewis blood groups, and secretor status with H pylori infection.
